Healing Soul Loss

Healing Soul LossHealing soul loss begins by understanding what the shamans have actually referred to as soul loss for centuries. Please know, that your soul is whole and well and there is nothing in our personal experiences that can harm it in any way. So, what do we mean when we say soul loss?

Simply put, soul loss is a breaking or fragmentation of the psyche - the pieces of what makes your personality, your identity, you. This fragmentation is what causes much of our emotional pain and problems. It is the cause of us becoming disconnected from what is pure, true, and loving. It is what causes us to not be in full connection with our soul. So, soul loss is a loss of connection to our soul, not the loss of our soul. We are simply too fragmented to be able to align with our soul.

How do you know you have soul loss? Here are simple questions you can ask yourself:

  • Do I have missing memories from large chunks of my childhood?
  • Am I able to think clearly enough to get things done efficiently?
  • Am I unstable in my body and uncoordinated, do I have areas that are oddly numb?
  • Am I not able to connect to my emotions? (as in you can intellectualize them but not feel them)

If your answer was yes to any of these questions, you may be suffering from soul loss. Our amazing psyches will create fragmentations during our experience, to protect us from having to fully feel something that it deems as too much for us to handle. It is set up this way so that we are able to get through the situation and then afterwards when we feel safe, be able to call these pieces back into us to integrate these emotions and experiences from a place of unconditional love. The problem is that most of us don’t know how to do this for ourselves, and without these fragmentations integrated back and healed, we become less of ourselves. Over time we can become unsure of ourselves, feel lost, and our confidence in knowing who we are is shaken.

There is an ancient teaching from Luxor that embodies the understanding of being fully connected when one is healed from soul loss. Most people identify the teaching of “Know Thyself” as the Delphic maxim used multiple times by Plato in his writing for the character Socrates. This ancient Greek aphorism originated from two of the ancient Egyptian proverbs from the Temple of Man in Luxor. This temple is comprised of two sections: the first called the External Temple, is where the beginners were allowed to enter, and then the Internal Temple, where only royalty or the priests were allowed to enter after having proven ready to acquire more knowledge and insights. One of the proverbs of the External Temple is "The body is the house of God." That is why it is said: "Man, know thyself".  In the Internal Temple, one of the many proverbs is, "Man, know thyself, and you are going to know the gods”. Going from the external into the internal through the Temple of Man, was a major initiation towards enlightenment.

Temple of Man in LuxorAll enlightenment truly is, is knowing yourself and choosing to be it. That is, choosing to express it and to share yourself free of any boundaries that you have created that make you inauthentic. When we have soul loss, we are not enlightened because we are not being truthful with ourselves. We have grown accustomed to being scared and hiding. We have been trained that to be socially acceptable we mustn’t share our pain or even what we are truly feeling and working on, with others. And many times we have lost the ability to even feel our feelings fully within ourselves. When we aren’t able to be fully true to ourselves about our desires and who we truly are, it is often due to fears of being abandoned. We are so afraid of others abandoning us, that we abandon ourselves in order to not to lose those we love. When we do this, we become fragmented, we suffer from soul loss.

Fragmentation happens and it happens to almost all of us in this amazing learning experience called life. There is no need to buy into being victimized by it or to be ashamed in any way. The path to healing is to be able to work on bringing these pieces back to you. The only way I know how to do this is from a space of unconditional love, where you are relaxed enough, and feel safe enough, to welcome these pieces back. This healing occurs once you are free enough to accept yourself, to welcome yourself, and to allow yourself to really be seen, free from fear. When we call these fragmented pieces back into us and heal them it is absolutely liberating! It is then, that we can actually find out who we truly are, and express it into the world from a place of profound peace, love, and power.

If you feel that this resonates with you and you are ready to heal, please know there is support for you. Love yourself enough to reach out, you are so worth it!
